Diamond Jewellery Settings

Diamonds often look good in white gold, yellow gold or platinum. Each person has its own preference with their jewellery. A perfect diamond setting will enhance the beauty of the jewellery. The different types of diamond settings are given below:

PRONG SETTING

In this case the stone is held by two or more distinct claws. Hence it adds height to the jewellery making the diamonds look bigger. It is the most popular form of diamond jewellery setting across the world.

PRESSURE SETTING

In this setting, more than seven round brilliant cut diamonds are clubbed together, in order to give an impression of a round brilliant solitaire.

INVISIBLE SETTING

The diamonds are set close together with no metal showing between them. Diamonds are grooved on the bottom and held in place with wires. This technique is used to create the illusion of larger diamonds.

PAVE SETTING

Derived from the French word “pave” meaning to be paved. In this setting the diamonds are set on the metal with the help of grains which are pulled up from the metal and pushed against the diamond. Americans have a strong liking for this kind of setting and such settings with tiny diamonds are normally rhodium-plated to enhance the effect of the jewellery.

BEZEL SETTING

In this case the stone is set encircled by a metal wall which is normally at a higher level than the plane surface of the jewellery.

CHANNEL SETTING

It is a type of setting often used in mounting a row of uniform sized stones in a row. Diamonds flow in a continuous row as no metal is used to separate them.

Care of your Jewellery

Jewellery is one of our most intimate & cherished accessories. An elegant jewellery piece makes an individual statement. Understanding how to care for your treasured jewellery can make a world of difference in maintaining its beauty and keeping its heirloom quality sparkling for generations to come

Gold Jewellery Care

Most of the jewellery is made of Gold. Although it comes in various karats, but the procedure to clean it remains the same.

• Gold jewellery should be removed before shower. This is because soap can cause a film to form on gold jewellery, making it appear dull and dingy.

• You will find many cleaners available in the market to clean your gold jewellery at home. Soft chamois cloth is a good option.

• Avoid chlorine, as it is disastrous. At high temperatures, it can permanently damage or discolour your gold jewellery. Do not wear gold jewellery while using chlorine bleach or while in a pool or hot tub.

• You can remove tarnish by using soap and water mixed with a few drops of ammonia. Carefully brush with a soft bristle brush. After the brushing, simply rinse with lukewarm water and allow drying.

• Grease can be removed from gold jewellery by dipping the jewellery into plain rubbing alcohol.

Diamond Jewellery Care

Diamonds are tough but they aren’t indestructible. These tips will help you clean and care for your diamond jewellery so that its beauty will remain intact for years to come.

• Never wear your diamond while doing rough or hard work.

• Chlorine can damage and discolour your diamond jewellery. Keep your diamond away from chlorine bleach or other household chemicals. You should also remove your diamond jewellery before entering a chlorinated pool or hot tub.

• Clean your diamonds regularly using jewellery cleaner, a mix of ammonia and water, or a mild detergent. Dip the jewellery into the solution and use a soft brush to wipe dust or dirt from under the setting.

• Avoid touching your clean diamonds with your fingers. Handle clean jewellery by its edges.

Colour Stone Jewellery Care

There are some general care and cleaning rules that apply to all coloured gemstone jewellery.

• After wearing, wipe your precious gemstone jewellery thoroughly with a clean soft, slightly damp cloth. This will enhance the gemstone's luster and ensure that your jewellery is clean before storage.

• Store gemstone pieces individually in soft pouches.

• Do not expose your precious gemstone pieces to salt water or harsh chemicals, such as chlorine or detergents. These chemicals may slowly erode the finish and polish of gemstones.

• Hair spray, perfume and perspiration may cause jewellery to become dull. Wear jewellery after applying cosmetics.

• Do not subject gemstone jewellery to sudden temperature changes.

• If you have an active lifestyle, take extra precautions with some types of gemstone jewellery. Emeralds, for example, are brittle and should not be worn when doing household chores or any other activity where the stone could be hit or damaged.

• Be extra careful with ultrasonic cleaners. Some gemstones are fragile and can be damaged by ultrasonic cleaners.

Pearl Jewellery Care

• Keep pearls away from household chemicals like hair spray, makeup and perfumes which can dull their luster over time and cause spots and blotches.

• Since pearl are very soft, choose pearls with thick nacre which can last long and withstand wear over time.

• The best way it to wear them often because the body natural oils keep them lustrous.

• Pearls should be wiped with a soft cloth before being stored and kept separate from other precious metals or gemstones that might scratch or dull their tender surfaces.
